Curator of Pope’s book on peace: The Pope can inspire moral mobilization
Pope Leo XIV, elected on May 8, 2025, made peace the central theme of his papacy, addressing it in speeches, homilies and greetings as conflicts and tensions persist worldwide. The Vatican Publishing House has now released his book “Disarmed and Disarming: Peace Is a Gift,” collecting his teachings on peace in Italian, with an English edition forthcoming and a new introduction by the Pope. Alessandro Banfi, the book’s curator, told Vatican Radio that the Pope’s message draws its strength from the Gospel and offers hope amid global turbulence. The volume organizes the Pope’s key addresses, from diplomatic encounters to World Day of Peace messages and youth dialogues, into thematic chapters, showing how his call for dialogue and bridge-building transcends different situations. Banfi reflected that while the Pope lacks military power, his moral authority can inspire what he called “moral mobilization,” a force feared by world leaders. In his introduction, Pope Leo stresses that peace begins with each person’s conscience and responsibility.
